Barnet & Southgate College

Advising on and supporting an appeal for £350,000 to fund specialist equipment for a new Centre for Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities.

About the Barnet & Southgate College

Barnet and Southgate College is a further education college in North London. It has three main campuses and two other learning centres, with around 14,000 students enrolled.

What we did for them

In 2014, Barnet and Southgate College built a new Centre for Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities funded by a grant from the Skills Funding Agency and from their own resources. They aspired to equip this new Centre to an exceptional standard and worked with IFCo to launch and run an appeal to fund specialist equipment, including a sensory room, a wheelchair-accessible minibus, a purpose-built IT suite and hydrotherapy pool equipment.

The appeal focused on attracting major gifts from a number of individuals and family foundations in the North London area – with help from the case for support document we designed below – and two grants from John Lyon’s Charity. Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson opened the centre in April 2015 and now caters for around 200 students each year with complex learning difficulties and disabilities.
