Burma Star Memorial Fund
The Burma Star Memorial Fund was founded by the Burma Star Association, to keep the memory of the Burma Campaign during the 2nd World War alive. The story of the 14th Army, which included a million men from more than 20 nations, is an incredible one, but so little known that they are frequently referred to as the Forgotten Army. The long, hard, heroic slog of the Burma Campaign was overlooked at the time and is still very much in the shadow of the better-known campaigns fought in Europe, Africa and elsewhere.
What we did for them
We were asked to advise the Fund on its strategy, as it moved from providing care for the veterans of the 14th Army, to memorialising the Burma Campaign. They planned to achieve this through two projects; an online archive and a scholarship fund, open to young people from any of the nations fighting in the 14 Army.
We developed a strategy for the organisation, based on approaching those who had strong connections to the legacy of the Fourteenth Army and who had an interest in British military history, or who were otherwise interested in the campaign. One of our consultants then became embedded with the organisation for 2 years, to deliver the new online archive, develop and deliver their fundraising strategy, design a new brand identity for the Fund and write and produce the accompanying case for support. Integral to this was a reception at Clarence House hosted by the Fund’s Royal Patron, King Charles III who was then HRH the Prince of Wales.
